Bespoke Alcove Bookcases with LED Lighting in Berkhamsted

These bespoke alcove bookcases were designed and built to fit either side of the existing fireplace in a lovely home in Berkhamsted.
The design includes traditional tongue and groove backs, fluted columns, decorative cornice, detailed worktops and Shaker-style cupboard doors, with skirting boards finishing everything neatly at floor level.
Both units were professionally spray-finished in Farrow & Ball Skimming Stone eggshell, giving them a soft, timeless finish that works beautifully with the character of the room.

The lighting is one of my favourite details on this project. Both bookcases feature integrated warm white LED lighting, neatly recessed into the sides of the shelving to give a lovely, even glow.
The lights are operated by a discreet swipe sensor, allowing you to switch them on and off or dim them up and down to create the right atmosphere.
We've also installed automatic LED lighting inside the lower cupboards, which comes on when the doors are opened.
It's a great example of how traditional joinery and modern lighting can work together, creating something that looks beautiful but is also practical for everyday use.
